Stussy was originally started in 1980 by Shawn Stussy, as he began selling his own hand made surfboards on Laguna beach in California, attaching what would become an iconic signature to each board. Stussy quickly became embraced by surf, skateboarding and hip-hop communities, influencing the youth with its unique DIY culture. Stussy's growth was organic, travelling by word of mouth throughout the world as Shawn found a community of like-minded people with similar outlooks in music, fashion and culture. The "International Stussy Tribe" promoted its shared lifestyle and community vibe with a range of custom varsity jackets, graphic tees and baseball caps, creating a legacy that continues to endure today. Stussy became a pioneer of what we now term as "streetwear". Today, the brand is just as relevant and still possesses a strong grip over culture with its fascinating heritage.
